Iraqi people polled face to face ... Story inside

"BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Nearly half the Iraqis polled in a survey conducted primarily in March and early April said they believed the U.S.-led war had done more harm than good, but 61 percent of respondents said Saddam Hussein's ouster made it worth any hardships."

    The CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll

    http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/...oll/index.html

I guess they're not ALL ungreatful after all.

Roger is probably going to come tell us how it's all a lie.

"Seventy-one percent surveyed said they saw troops mostly as occupiers, while 19 percent said they viewed them as liberators."

Face-to-face polls? That oughta give an honest response You're not familiar with Muslim culture are you?

Wether your so called poll is actually close to the truth or not, Iraq is screwed up for decades or perhaps centuries to come and the US is stuck there. Kinda like some European countries and there former colonies. My relatives left Iraq safely and won't come back, that's what matters to me.

So if you can't get a Muslim's oppinion out of them face to face .. You need to have a mob of them then? Don't mobs of Muslims just blow themselves up and kill each other?

It's neither "my poll" .. nor "so called". You can't offer anything to invalidate it, and I'm sure you have no source closer to the Iraqi people. Unless you live in Iraq, you can't possibly know better.

Newsflash .. Iraq HAS been screwed for decades. Just now that the cancer has been removed from it's heart, it has a chance of healing.

Why would they tell the truth and expose themselves?

It's neither "my poll" .. nor "so called". You can't offer anything to invalidate it, and I'm sure you have no source closer to the Iraqi people. Unless you live in Iraq, you can't possibly know better.
let's see "Two-thirds -- 67 percent -- said troops were not trying at all to keep ordinary Iraqis from being killed in exchanges of gunfire, while 18 percent said the Americans were trying only a little and 11 percent said they were trying a lot.

But the Iraqis surveyed were split on whether ongoing U.S.-led military action in the country was justified. Fifty-two percent said it was not, while 47 percent said it could be justified.

Asked about when they wanted U.S. and British forces to leave, 57 percent chose immediately, as in the next few months, the poll said; 36 percent said troops should stay longer. "

Now it ain't that good is it? The US is planning on staying in Iraq and Iraqis want them to leave. I'm sure they also risked there lives and went to dangerous places in order to get the views of the people in there

Newsflash .. Iraq HAS been screwed for decades. Just now that the cancer has been removed from it's heart, it has a chance of healing.
Yes it has been screwed for decades because of the superpowers intervention and will continue to be so. We're creating a country with an irresponsible population who'll keep counting on the US to keep them out of any trouble they may experience. Have fun

I agree with Roger on this one.

And I think we all know that CNN isn't the most reliable source for UN Iraq news.

The only person to blame for the state of Iraq, is Saddam Hussein.

Maybe not to America, but certainly to it's neighbors.

I don't understand why people think it's impossible that Saddam would support terrorists. Saddam and for instance Bin Laden never saw eye to eye on most things .. And yes, Bin Laden did hate Saddam's secular goverment ... Their hatred for American could easily have been or have become a uniting factor.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Bin Laden wants the end of the Western way of life .. It's foolish to believe he wouldn't consider using Iraq to obtain that goal.

You don't think any source, actually polling Iraqi people, then reported on CNN is valid?

I absolutely agree with you. Why anyone would bother trying to bring freedom to ungrateful cavemen, when there's problems at home .. Is way beyond me.

If the United States stopped supporting everything .. Let the Africans die from AIDs and/or kill each other. Let the middle east Duke it out. Let them all go. But then the world would be crying the US never does anything.

What better source do we have?

None of us are in Iraq. It's better than just guessing.

Can you explain to me the great consipiracy of CNN? We all know how well people keep secrets. How come it hasn't leaked out that the republican party is in fact running CNN and it's all just a big hoax?

Do you have better sources? First hand knowledge? Invalidate this poll, and give some reasonable evidence to support your argument.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend? I think Saddam learned the hard way that it ain't such a good idea after his experience with Kuwait and the US once the Iran war was over Not to mention that he's seen what Ben Laden is doing to the US, a country who helped him in his fight against the Soviets.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Bin Laden wants the end of the Western way of life .. It's foolish to believe he wouldn't consider using Iraq to obtain that goal.
Yeah he's actually now using Iraq to obtain that goal. Ben Laden wants the end of moderate Islam. His extremist ideas where loosing ground, no government wanted anything to do with him and so he launched a desperate attack on 9/11 to guarantee his survival. Turns out he wasn't wrong. Thanks to him, the US managed to really piss off even the most moderate Muslims.

There was an interview with a British journalist who interviewed Ben Laden in 1996 and Ben Laden told him that his lifelong dream is to get the US to invade a ME country.

Nah.. Bin Laden just wants the US to stop occupying muslim nations. He's got a good motive, but he goes about it the wrong way.

No he doesn't want jsut that. He wants America destroyed. He said so in his last broadcast. Something to the effect of "There will be no truce with America".

Can you explain to me the great consipiracy of CNN? We all know how well people keep secrets. How come it hasn't leaked out that the republican party is in fact running CNN and it's all just a big hoax?

Al Jazeera would be a much better source.. it's unbiased and alot closer to the information. Alot of CNN's information comes from Al Jazeera as well... Believing what you hear on CNN is just as bad as believing the Iraqi media. It's propoganda on both sides.

Take a good hard look at Africa. Take a good hard look at who's spending the most money there. Imagine how much worse it would be, if the United States stopped paying.

No Al-Jazeera is based in Qatar and yeah it's biased, it's gotta appeal to the masses. Journalists are people, they're not unbiased. Some Arab governments, especially Saudi Arabia want it shut down because Al-Jazeera often shows them as US puppets. You should see the Saudis during the Arab League summits, the guy goes on a wild ride of insults on anyone who dares to criticize the US.
