Mine is like at 65C and when it hot in the house at like 70C. What is a normal temperature. Anyone got an athlon xp cpu here

50 C should be maximum while You are working. Try water watercooling technology, cheap, noiselessness and good productivity, my athlon XP 1,7 has usually 37 C and about 42C while i am playing games.Originally posted by riosluts

Yeah that's high, I have mine set to shut down at 60c. Note that they (or at least the older models) don't have an internal censor, this information is measured by the motherboard's censor, so it's probably about 10C or so higher than that.

Too hot.
Try taking off the case of your computer. If the CPU temp. drops to around 40c, you need some extra fans in your case. If it doesn't drop to that temp., then you need a new CPU fan/heat sync. Most AMD chips run hot, so good CPU fans and heat syncs are VERY critical with those AMD chips.
And to folks who don't like system fan noise, try buying a larger fan and run it at a lower RPM. Less noise, same air displacement. Tiny fans running at high RPMs are noisy suckers.Comment

Also, utilities/software that report the temperature do so in different ways...
Some (like SpeedFan for example) reports the temperature HIGHER than any sensor reports it.
This is because the sensors used by different motherboard manufacturers
function differently and thus the reporting-software You're using may try
to compensate the sensor-value for safetys sake..
I've got an Asus motherboard for instance and both the BIOS, their utility and MBM5 report my
processors temp. between 38 and 44 degrees Celsius (idle vs. full load)... while SpeedFan
reports it between 57 and 60-something...
Anyway, I've got good cooling and I know I can trust the ~40-degree reporting and have set my BIOS' overheating-protection to the BIOS' lowest possible setting. AMD states my processors (XP 2200+) maximum tolerable working-temp. is ~60 degrees.
My tip for You is to get several different utilities that read the sensor-value... Unless You're having complete crashes/freezes at that temperature, I suspect You're seeing an over-compensated temperature reading...
The processor WOULD start behaving weird if it's really over 60-65 "true" degrees.

I run about 35c and when rendering around 42c tops. I have lots of fans including a desktop office fan running right on the mb. Cooler the computer the faster it will render video.Comment
