    Google New Site Penalty

quoted from a post on another webmmaster forum:
    -----------------------------------------------------
I made the mistake in February of launching some new sites and assuming Google would index them and rank them along with what I'd come to expect from such SEO skills as I possess. I've done pretty well in the past.

BIG MISTAKE!. Google now penalizes new sites. Take a look at http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum78/4722.htm

While new sites are indexed, it seems its impossible to get a new site to rank well.

So, I've taken simply to adding to existing sites until this is cleared up. Seems there's no problem obtaining ranking when adding pages to sites that had ranking before the first of this year.

This should cut out newbies from being a much of a factor in our market, given the fact that Google will dump adwords for pharmacy sites after mid May. Then the only competition from advertising will be from Drugstore.Com and their ilk. Those established with decent SEO from older sites may well benefit.

    Thoughts anyone?

    -----------------------------------------------------

I dont think so, my sites created on 2004-feb also get some hits from google, and u? what u think? lets discuss

still quoted from the post on that forum:
              some more details:
Upshot is since about Dec last year it appears new sites get crawled and indexed but won't rank - for any/nearly any terms ijnckluding pretty non-competitive ones. Seems to be taking up to 3 months to see any results. Older sites that pages are added to don't have the same problems suggesting some sort of penalty/filter/flag on new sites.

BTW, Im also dont have a WMW subscription yet..

it seems to be true. Not that sites are not indexed, they are indexed but getting low ranks and PR. I don't know about the dates, but sites that used to be well ranked in 2 months top now it takes 4-5 to the least. At the same time, Yahoo became faster to get higher ranks

THe thread is 22 pages long atm, here are some of the highlights:

I launch mostly small 5-20 page personal interest niche sites. They usually get crawled and rank well in a month for their narrow market keywords. The last couple of months new sites have done nothing. New pages or sections for the larger established sites are indexed and well ranked just as fast as Googlebot can come through, and this is for fairly competitive commerce.

Well I have a new site ranking with the best for good keywords in the adult sector.
The domain was a new domain bought 3 months ago and sat idle for 6 wks and got immediate ranking when it went live.It dropped a bit as they usually do at first but its back up firing now.
That theory holds water from the 'follow the money' perspective (always one of the best) - but the whole idea of google indexing sites slowly is contrary to their stated goals from a few months back.

I just remember googleguy half-bragging about google's speed to index. GG was taking part in a lot of conversations a few months back revolving around the fact that people were starting to see traffic on new domains within days (I was part of it myself, friday launch, sunday traffic). GG was 'pleased to hear it' and implied that it was one of their goals.

oh crap, here it goes: stop building new sites. pronto. it works best for sites that were up since 1998 or longer. all after 1998 is crap to get listed nowdays.
