    Mini-Dv Camera : 1 CCD or 3 CCD?

    My dad is looking for a good mini-dv camera for his personal use and has asked me to look around for good prices and the like...

    he showed me a 3CCD one he wants from JVC, but I am wondering what REALLY is the difference from a 3CCD to a 1 CCD....


    anyone can explain this to me? For example, the JVC one he wants has these specs for the CCD: 1/6", 800K x 3CCD

    But, another Sony cam I looked at for the same price, but with one CCD, has this : 1/3.6" 2110K Pixel Advanced HAD? CCD


    What is best, what's the difference , etc...?


    here are the two I am looking at... but if you got other suggestions around those prices, let me know (needs to have 2mega pixel pics at the minimum)

      3ccd video cameras produce superior video.

      Why did you want a 2 mega pixel model? Video only uses a fraction of that and even cheap still cameras kick the shit out of camcorders.

          3 chipper all the way. The biggest issue with DV cameras is the abaility or inability to deal with color translation and low light environments.

          With a 3ccd for every primary color theres a dedicated chip
          instead of one covering all. Theres a huge difference to the look
          and feel of captured images. Not a useless luxury because of the flaws mentioned above.

          Your dad should do to a store and compare a 1ccd cam to a 3ccd cam.. it all depends on what he will use the cam for.

                      exactly what I was thinking.....the VX-2000 or 2100 is probably over kill but the 950 is a 3ccd and still looks like a consumer camera.

                          canon gl2 if you wanna pro-sumer cam.. or a canon xl1s for a pro-type cam... both 3ccd... canon's color is far better than sonys... i don't know much about panasonic's cam... i would just stick w/ something have has performed well and continues to.. by that i mean CANON CAMS ;) -g

                              I wouldn't, but that's what he said he wanted... he wanted to carry one piece of equipement, not two ... heh

                                  like for the panasonic one I linked to above, it says 3x 1/6 800k

                                      Budget wize, he's looking at around 1,000$... the 950 is priced at $2,000


                                      he'll probably go with the panasonic 3ccd, but I really liked the flash feature of the sony if he wants to use it for pictures too...

                                          Canon XL1S sucks compared to Sony VX2000 or VX2100. There's noise in the audio, the colors are much worse and the camera weighs a ton. GL2 is the same as XL1S - only shittier.
