anyone gonna get the mac mini?

    http://www.apple.com/macmini/

i've never been a fan of macs. i stopped using them shortly after iMacs came out and i've been a PC boy ever since.

but i must admit, these mac minis are pretty hot and i'm tempted to get one for myself. anyone else gonna buy one?

Not me...too much money for what you get, plus the hardware has serious bottlenecks...I mean 256MB and 512MB ram...pleassee plus the cpu's used are a dog... :/

This is more like a trendy-gadget more than anything else..

It is my understanding, that a 1.4 G4 is a pretty good speed/chip.

We have one guy in the office who just won't let the mac go, won't even upgrade to OSX, of course he is on a blue G3 so that's pretty shitty to begin with. I think he is going to upgrade to one of these, at least then I can stop hearing him get upset every time it dies. The old one only has a 6 gig drive in it.

I wouldn't mind having one... I am on a 1.0GHZ G4 right now and it is definitely fast enough for my tasks... I'm not sure how the mini stacks up against a powerbook though.

Yes I want one pretty bad. I don't think there are any shuttle boxes for that price that can compete. The RAM is a little low, and upgradeable to a managable 1gb (still not great) But for 600$ you can do some bad ass shit with that box.

my order for one went in at 11:37 AM PST, lets see if it is actually delivered by the 22nd... i went for the 1.42GHz, superdrive, Airport and Bluetooth. no upgrade on the ram, i'll tear it open myself and upgrade the memory... it can take up to a 2GBDimm..

Man I thought it would be pretty cheap but you configure it with 1.4Ghz, 512 Ram, add a keyboard and mouse and some wireless connectivity and you are looking at $800. lol.

                    Take Luck!
