I think it's for any combination of three reasons:

1) It's a highly sexualized, testosterone laden business we're in. Simple fact of life that sex and violence are, sadly, close cousins.

2) There's an asstonne of money being made. Wherever there's money, there's bound to be people obsessing that someone else is making more than them... jealousy leads to violence.

3) Half of the attendees are cave dwellers that never leave the basement. The bright light in the sky hurts and confuses them, and they lash out in primitive survival instinct. That, plus the fact that they have no clue how to communicate with the rest of the outside world and use the fact that they're outside in the real world as an excuse to act... erm... inappropriately. Having the show in vegas doesn't help with that, either.
