America is stopping the spread of WMD's, yet they funded Israel in getting theirs. Perhaps it has something to do with the media?

Hussain was one of the best dictator allies the US ever had. Daddy Bush really fucked up that relationship.

Hussain was hand picked by the CIA, and was the best friend the US had had since Batista.

Hussain invaded Iran for the US. He thought he had the permission of the US to acquire Kuwait. What a fuck up.

For all the adminstration's lies about wanting democracy, they truely want stable, loyal dictatorships.

Unfavourable elections like the recent one in Spain are a real pain in the ass.

USA secretly gave weapons to Iran and to Iraq
and made a conflict the rest took its own obvious toll

Wrong...the only weapons sold to Iraq by the US was a handful of fixed wing rotary aircraft and the indirect sale of some cluster bombs during the Iran/Iraq war. The weapons that Iraq possessed were primiraly sold to Iraq by Russia, France and Germany provided the bunkers...and maybe some weapons.

The U.S. provided financial aid, military intelligence, and actual military planning to Iraq at a time when the Reagan administration was well aware that Iraq was using chemical weapons against Iran. One anonymous inside source told the New York Times that the Pentagon ?wasn't so horrified by Iraq's use of gas. It was just another way of killing people ? whether with a bullet or phosgene, it didn't make any difference.?
The facts surrounding U.S. covert support for Iraq and its awareness that Iraq had been using chemical warfare against the Iranians, and perhaps the Kurds, offers serious implications to the current Bush administration's argument for 'regime change' in Iraq. One of the main premises of the administration's argument is that Saddam Hussein must be removed from power because he is 'evil' - referring of course to the allegation that Saddam Hussein 'gassed his own people.'

USA knew it all along, but never acted, only after many years later, when Bush had to finish some business

In Iraq, a decade of harsh sanctions under US pressure has strengthened Saddam while leading to the death of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis - perhaps more people "than have been slain by all so-called weapons of mass destruction throughout history", military analysts John and Karl Mueller wrote in Foreign Affairs in 1999.

Washington's present justifications to attack Iraq have far less credibility than when President Bush No. 1 was welcoming Saddam as an ally and a trading partner after the Iraqi leader had committed his worst brutalities - as in Halabja, where Iraq attacked Kurds with poison gas in 1988. At the time, the murderer Saddam was more dangerous than he is today.

As for a US attack against Iraq, no one, including Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, can realistically guess the possible costs and consequences.

Radical Islamist extremists surely hope that an attack on Iraq will kill many people and destroy much of the country, providing recruits for terrorist actions.

They presumably also welcome the "Bush doctrine" that proclaims the right of attack against potential threats, which are virtually limitless. The President has announced that: "There's no telling how many wars it will take to secure freedom in the homeland". That's true.

Threats are everywhere, even at home. The prescription for endless war poses a far greater danger to Americans than perceived enemies do, for reasons the terrorist organisations understand very well.

Twenty years ago, the former head of Israeli military intelligence, Yehoshaphat Harkabi, also a leading Arabist, made a point that still holds true. "To offer an honourable solution to the Palestinians, respecting their right to self-determination - that is the solution of the problem of terrorism," he said. "When the swamp disappears, there will be no more mosquitoes."

Pesticides can be weaponized...ferterlizer can be weaponized...there are common household products that can be weaponized. When the extent of the weaponizing of some of these dual use materials was learned by the Government the sales of some of these dual use materials were proscribed...but even then some companies still made sales and paid legal consequences. The only weapons sold to Iraq was a handful of rotorary wing aircraft and the indirect sale of some cluster bombs.

Everyone remembers the time when States were supporting Taliban and Al'Quaeda in Afghanistan. BTW, the local TV is going to show Rembo III on Saturday. I'll watch it for sure (it's very curiously to see good American superhero Rembo helping peaceful Taliban people to get rid of Russians and accumulate some power to bomb NY on 9/11).
