    Dear valued PayPal® member:

PayPal® is committed to maintaining a safe environment for its community of
buyers and sellers. To protect the security of your account, PayPal employs
some of the most advanced security systems in the world and our anti-fraud
teams regularly screen the PayPal system for unusual activity.

Recently, our Account Review Team identified some unusual activity in your
account. In accordance with PayPal's User Agreement and to ensure that your
account has not been compromised, access to your account was limited. Your
account access will remain limited until this issue has been resolved. This
is a fraud prevention measure meant to ensure that your account is not
    compromised.

In order to secure your account and quickly restore full access, we may
require some specific information from you for the following reason:

We would like to ensure that your account was not accessed by an
unauthorized third party. Because protecting the security of your account
is our primary concern, we have limited access to sensitive PayPal account
features. We understand that this may be an inconvenience but please
understand that this temporary limitation is for your protection.

We encourage you to log in and restore full access as soon as possible.
Should access to your account remain limited for an extended period of
time, it may result in further limitations on the use of your account.

However, failure to restore your records will result in account suspension.
Please update your records on or before January 5, 2005.

Once you have updated your account records, your PayPal session will not be
interrupted and will continue as normal.

An obvious scam. Never fall for anything a bank sends you through email without your name in it. Most banks and financial services like paypal will call you over the phone if there is a problem.

Topics as important as safety and security aren't handled via email. It's a scam.

Yeah, of course it is a scam. You should report it to paypal just so they know...
Also, if your ever wondering if an email is a scam or not you can sometimes find out by checking the email headers.

Although it's an obvious scam and it amazes me people have to ask about it these days you are so very, very wrong. Paypal won't call you and WILL e-mail. However, they won't send you off to any URL to enter details. It'll usually be handled simply by logging in normally to your account or by you contacting them in return.

There's tons of variations on that scam. The crappiest (and more damaging ones) are the citibank and wellsfargo variations.

I receive on average 40 of those a month..

One thing that's good to know, Paypal never addresses you as Paypal user.. they use the name you registered with.

Also.. whenever you want to check something out.. don't click on anything in an e-mail.. go to the site via typing in the url instead. That will protect you from any scamming.

Forward suspicious e-mails to [email protected]

                                  I get those everyday.
The ones supposedly from the banks crack me up.
I have a shaw.ca email address, so oviously canadian, it makes me laugh when I get american bank emails.

What's so "SPECIAL" about your email?
