    Was there ever really a Jesus?

    Was there ever really a Jesus?

    The only record we have of a Jesus is from the New Testament. From Mathew, Mark, Luke and John (MMLJ). There have been no other documents, historical or otherwise, that mention a Jesus. No trial docs left by the Romans. No other historians wrote about him. You can say that the Gnostic Gospels were another account but in reality they would have come from the Bible.

    We know nothing of MMLJ either. They most likely didn't even write the Gospels themselves. And the most prominent follower of Jesus, someone that in my view was responsible for Christianity, never met Jesus (Paul).

    What reason do we have to believe that Jesus really existed?

                      hmm although i hestitate to write it as i don't have the proof in front of me.

                      I believe he did exist as there are numerous letters found from Roman soldiers to their wives at home etc, mentioning him.

                      He was not the son of a god...there is no such thing.

                      He was however smart as hell, and offered sagely advice whereever he went to people who couldn't figure out it was a bad idea to get drinking water from the same place you shit.

                              I haven't heard of any letters from the Romans. That would be interesting. I do believe there was a historical Jesus as I hardly believe that Peter and the others would have gone through so much trouble had there not really been a Jesus. However, I am an atheist so I believe he was a man and was crucified like all the other Messiahs of the day - and there were many.

                                  I believe jesus existed, although this is a really big story and a huge discussion. I have also been to his grave and seen the place where he was crucified, however this of course does not mean that he was the son of god or anything, but i think we can be sure that he existed as a historical person.

                                  I believe in god and jesus myself, however its one of these things you were taught to believe and perhaps works as a "placebo", like "please make me pass the exams" and when you do you say "god helped me". Im not like that but i think you see my point...
