            It should be basic common sense these days, especially in the world of pornography, to get tested every six months or so for the HIV virus. Even more so, it should be the intelligent option to use a condom when engaging in any sexual act. more and even more...

                                                                That may be apocryphal. Not speaking Portuguese It isn't really possible to check on that. And for all I know they class escorts as being different from prostitutes. I have heard it phrased actually as "street prostitutes". But regardless of actual statistics anyone with a brain knows that prostitutes are as highly infected as IV drug users and have a much higher rate of infection than the general public in any country.

People who die of disease are listed as 'natural causes' or direct pathology on death certificates. Since most AIDS deaths are from secondary diseases, AIDS deaths are listed as Pneumonia, Peritonitis, T.B., etc.

                                                                    Don't trust those stats.

                                                                                                The claim is that James contracted AIDS from hardcore scenes filmed in Brazil in late March. That means that a little more than 2 weeks later not only is it known that he is infected, but at least one secondary partner is infected. I say that is bullshit. AIDS doesn't work that way and it could be months before the body produces enough antibodies to be detected in a test. I would bet a specialist examining both cases would determine that their viral load indicates an infection prior to March.

                                                                                                Also, many keep trying to point the finger to who should keep records. All this talk is bullshit as well. That may keep up with who has been with who on film productions that honestly keep records, but do you really think performers are going to cough up names and have all of their off-camera sex partners tested and reported back to their film companies, especially if such sex was for $$$? Do you have a plan to insure that performers only have sex with other "tested clean" perfomers and to enforce it?

You can actually find out in 6-8 weeks if you sero-converted with this test.

                                                                                                        But if you want IMMEDIATE results..get a viral load test done. That will tell you in 24 hours whether or not you have the virus!
                                                                                                        Seems to me there is a need for IMMEDIACY in this industry!

So they gave him a viral load test (which turned out to be negative) and put him on anti-virals just to play it absolutely safe should the test results be at all un-reliable.

                                                                                                            Since this is a blood carried disease, there will be hiv in the bloodstream IMMEDIATELY after infection (it take longer for the body to generate anti-bodies). That is why viral load tests will detect the virus if it is present.

My doctor treated hiv patients as a resident. He had a "needle stick" (hiv blood was in the syringe). So they gave him a viral load test (which turned out to be negative) and put him on anti-virals just to play it absolutely safe should the test results be at all un-reliable.

                                                                                                                                                                                Since this is a blood carried disease, there will be hiv in the bloodstream IMMEDIATELY after infection (it take longer for the body to generate anti-bodies). That is why viral load tests will detect the virus if it is present.

And although a viral load test can hypothetically detect the presence of the virus almost immediately after infection there are limitations:

                                                                                                                                                                                That doesn't mean it's not useful. It just means that it isn't a magic wonder test. It's also much more expensive and it takes longer to get results.

                                                                                                                                                                                                        While the article you quoted is pretty accurate..it's way off in the amount of hiv in the blood..it's much more than 2%

                                                                                                                                                                                                        Regardless..the point of the viral load is this: IF you have the virus, there will ALWAYS be detection of hiv in the blood (unless you are already on the cocktails that "flushes" the blood of hiv). So, you WILL get an accurate result from the test.

                                                                                                                                                                                                        It is much faster than the western blot. Me thinks the main reason it is not the "test of choice" is because of the money issue. It does cost a lot more for this test. But hey...aren't people lives worth a LOT MORE?

                                                                                                                                                                                                        P.S. Needed to edit this post to add that the Western Blot has a large accuracy problem..fully 1/5th of the tests can give false positives.
