booting from a win 2000 CD will NOT work because you cannot install an older operating system over a newer version (i.e. 2000 over XP).
what you need to do is make a floppy of Win 2000 and boot from that, and ALSO make sure to reformat your hardrive or at least partition it and put the new operating system in a new partition. do NOT intall 2000 OVER xp....
i have done this millions of times because xp is a piece of shit. 2000 is so much better and faster. good choice!
