Supposedly lubricated comdoms/lube is dangerous because of benzene which suppresses tbe immune system. Lots of conspiracy theories out there, anyone know if it has any truth?

I found an entire forum full of "dissenters" who belive that HIV does not cause aids http://groups.msn.com/aidsmythexposed/general.msnw
Main reasons why people seem to believe this from reading all this stuff is: (and I will summarze this in my own words)
-Not all people who have HIV get Aids, and some people with Aids are NOT Hiv positive
-Other factors cause the immune system to be supressed including; drug use which could be toxic, using sexual lubricants which containe benzene and/or other harmful toxins, and getting sperm up your butt. Supposedly, sperm is an immune-system depressant and affects it adversely, and through anal sex it enters directly into the blood, whereas it doesn't with regular sex because the vagina has more stronger linings and is more resistant.
- AZT- This is a drug given to hiv patients, but supposedly it's carcinogenic and can do more bad than good, and actually causing disease and death.
I'm always fascinated by conspiracy theories, does there seem any truth to this?Last edited by phogirl69; 04-15-2004, 01:12 AM.Comment

That is partially true, but not in the way they want to make you believe. AIDS is strictly related to HIV viruses(it is classified, it has a special class of definition), immunodepression is another thing, anyways it's not an easy argument to explain on an adult webmaster boardOriginally posted by phogirl69

That's what I would prefer to believe, that it is real and that doctors weren't just careless and "made something up". Have you heard of Dr Peter Duesberg from Uc Berkley? He is the main dissenter of the theory that hiv does not cause Aids, but I can't really tell if he's crazy or someone who can be taken seriously. A lot of times conspiracy theorists are just "out there".Originally posted by sexsup

Also, is immunodepression dangerous? So if Aids is strictly related to HIv viruses, WHAT is the agenda of the people who are dissenters? What is the purpose of them trying to convince other people otherwise?Comment

I see you have many questions about this argument, so feel free to contact me if you want futher explanations about HIV, AIDS, immunodepression
About dissenters goals I dont have an answer(or I have too much answers that is the same), but remember that there is a lot of ignorance about medicine in general audience, and that's the real problem
How can you(people) talk about HIV if you dont know what is a virus?
How can you talk about AIDS or immunodepression if you dont know what is immune system, or how it works....?Last edited by sexsup; 04-15-2004, 01:52 AM.Comment

They've been using the same bullshit for almost 10 years. You'd think they would've come up with at least one fucking study to prove this theory.Originally posted by SilverTab

That Duesberg guy really has a set of BRASS BALLS to question the conventional wisdom on AIDS.
He is a well respected virologist and seems to know his stuff. So I'm not sure who exactly to believe.
THERE IS a lot of money to be made off the AIDS cocktail drugs though.

Just a guess here... but the kind of 'studies' that would make you nod your head in agreement cost money - millions. These studies usually at some stage are conducted by or approved by the very agencies that may want to perpetuate a more profitable belief.Originally posted by NoCarrier

Go tell that to someone infected with HIV. Tell them to stop using the Tritherapy just because you read an article on the internet and you think it's a huge conspiracy across the planet to make money.Originally posted by goBigtime

But when the viral load returns, you better have some fucking good explanations to give.Last edited by NoCarrier; 04-15-2004, 05:22 AM.Comment

You would think it's an easy answer. BUT...
What about Magic Johnson? He was tested positive for HIV in 1991, and 13 years later, it's hard for them to detect the HIV antib o d y in his b o d y.
Is this because he's a super athlete? Is it because of all the immediate treatment he received?
Or? Will it surface at some point in time...way down the road?SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.Comment

he has a TON of money, and can afford the very best treatment. He is also not your ordinary human being - the guy was in amazing condition - I'm sure all of these things played a bug factor in his current state of health.Originally posted by Vic Lagina

Magic Johnson is using the tritherapy ( the protease inhibitors). The tritherapy stops the viral replication, but it does not eradicate it from the human body. Right now, it's the best treatment to keep the viral load extremely low. The problem is, around 20% of people infected with HIV does not respond to the treatment. The virus is getting stronger, so unless they find a vaccine, they still need to find new drugs.Originally posted by Vic Lagina
