    Real estate question

Is there any way to find out which real estate agent had the highest sales last year in a specific state/province/country?
I post on GFY so that when people ask me what I do,
I can tell them that I work with the mentally retarded.

generally not, unless the brokerage lists the yearly sales by agent, etc.

some franchises have in-house "clubs", i.e. C-21 has the million dollar club, 2 million dollar club and so on. these refer to annual gross sales volume and are indicators of who are the top agents.

you are wise to try to find an agent who actually makes a good living---they can usually put together the best deal for you---but the old rule of 20% do 80% of the business holds true, especially in RE.

if you are looking for a good agent i would suggest using someone you get along with from an independent company like REMax, those agents are all brokers, and have to pay their managing broker for desk space, and statistically they do the highest volume per agent in the industry.

Thanks for the info. I was just wondering because I've seen newspaper articles that have mentioned certain real estate agents as being the #1 seller in (insert place here), and I was wondering how they know which agents sold more than others. I thought maybe there was some organization that keeps track of how many sales each agent makes.

most agents are also "Realtors" which is a trade organization. the Realtors run the MLS (multiple listing service) which keeps track of the listing price and sales price of each property.

it also tracks the listing and selling agent and the listed commission, and whether the property sells or expires unsold.

real estate companies keep track of this info to promote their top sales people.
