Do you need a car rental in Cancun ?

I'm gonna be taking the wifey down to Cancun towards the end of Febuary and was wondering if a car rental is needed. I know that a couple of people said that you really don't need a car rental down there, but we're thinking that it'd be nice to have a car to do what we want.

We're looking at staying at the Omni Cancun Hotel

I know that a lot of you have been there before, so I figured I'd ask you

it all depends. you only need one when you get from the airport to the strip. after that, you can walk everywhere or take a taxi. but, on the other hand, if you're like everyone, you'll enjoy the freedom of driving.

In most cases...A taxi is the way to go.....However....If you do need your own vehicle...Directly across the street from the Omni is a Jeep rental place. $10usd per day.

Thanks for all of the comments guys, I appreciate them Maybe I'll stay away from the rentals and take Aaron's advice and just rent a jeep from across the street if it comes down to it.

We're the kind of people that like to roam around rather than being stuck, but we've never been down to Cancun, so this time around we'll stay away from the rentals. I got a $508 quote for a week rental of a mid-sized car. I suppose that that could go a long way in cab fare

Do the cabs. I even paid to go to the ruins on a lark. It was not cheap but it is convenient.
