Canon EOS 6.3MP Digital Rebel Camera - HELP!

My father is going to shoot content very soon I am thinking to buy him a Canon EOS 6.3MP Digital Rebel Camera for this.
Maybe someone could answer my next questions, I know nothing about photo cameras, and I don't want to make a bad decision

1. Is this camera ok to shoot content with?
2. How important optical zoom is, anyone knows the optical zoom this camera has? I've found no informations about this on Amazon.
3. Which camera is better Sony DSC-F828 8MP Digital Camera or this Canon for shooting content?

Any other sugestions for a camera good to shoot content with in the price range of 800-1000$ are more then welcomed.

1. I would go for the 10d rather than the rebel

2. I may be wrong about this and someone who is more tech minded than me will probably say, but I with the 10d you won't need to worry about optical/digital zoom factors at all since it has interchangable lenses and you/he will need to make sure you get one or two good lenses for it.

3. Personally I stick with Canon

Thanks for the reply latina find I know the 10d is better but it cost like 1500$ and I can't afford it yet. Rebel got interchangable lenses too.

The Digital rebel has interchangeable lenses so of course there will be no mention of the optical zoom in the PDF because the optical zoom will be the same as the lens that you'll be using.

Sony F828 comes with 8x zoom which is roughly equivalent to 28-200mm lens so if you want to match the Sony, you'll need to supplement the lens included in the kit with another zoom lens - 50-200 mm should do the trick.

I think you may be asking the wrong question? The question really isn't "which camera is better", the question is "which camera is better for your father".

In the hands of a professional photographer or at least someone familiar with photography the Canon is definitely a far better, more versatile camera. However, for a novice or someone not too familiar with photography the Sony 828 would be the best route to go.

The Sony is basically a point and shoot on steroids. It will achieve a picture quality equal to many DSLR's and at the same time it offers the ease of use of a point and shoot. You can give this camera to a 10 year-old and they'll be able to take great pics.

So if you're father has a background in photography go with the Canon, if he doesn't get him the Sony with an external flash!

Good point Jake, I'll stick with canon then. My father is familiar with photography and advanced photgraphic technics but never had a professional digital camera.

I can answer your question directly. The supplied 18-55mm lens (which is equivalent to a 28-90mm lens on a film SLR) does roughly 3X optical zoom. The "times zoom" thing is uses more for consumer cameras rather than SLRs, since it all depends on the lens you have attached at the time.

The cannon is what I own, and I have used the nikkon before too, I personally prefer the cannon.

and as has been mentioned already it is an slr so there are like 70 different lens' you can interchange ....

definatly the best choice in my opinion
