MrIzzz the flat end is to push back your cuticles (the skin at the end of your nail) - first put cuticle cream then push back or the skin will crack. The pointy end is more to clean under your nails. I actually looked up the meaning of cuticle and got a good laugh at meaning # 2 from m-w.com
