Is exclusive content over-rated?

I sell alot of exclusives so obviously it must work but that doesnt mean it works for everyone as I sell a ton on non exclusives also

If you are in any sort of a niche, then exclusive is the only way to go.

Well my personal opinion is that exclusive is over-rated. The value proposition is in the ability to produce new content, not in holding existing content hostage.

Then again I shouldn't shoot myself in the foot. Exclusive content is up and growing market on our site

From what I have seen...Those who think exclusive content is over rated are usually the same people who can not afford it in the first place.

I much prefer paysites that producer their own exclusive content, it's my experience it just works better.

I think when it comes to movies, it probably doesn't matter that much since no one is giving away 30 minute movies on TGPs. Even if surfers have seen free 10 second clips from your movies 100 times, they haven't seen the full video unless they broke down and paid for it.

With so much content available nowadays i'd bet that maybe 1 Member in 100 would know the difference and after a minute and a half he won't care.

Also, given the number of paysites out there that all say "Exclusive" but have no content, no video and haven't updated in the last century, your market is regrettably small.

A lot of people talk about exclusive as if it is a magic bullet. Someone in this thread attempted to prove it, by pointing at Bang Bros. But surely the point about their content and other successful content is not that it is exclusive, but that it is different from the run-of-the-mill stuff on 999/1000 sites? It's genuinely sexy, it shows the girls off at their best. That kind of content enhances the surfers' fantasies rather than pouring cold water on them.

Blah, blah, blah ... go tell it to the Bang Bros and all the other guys that run sites that are offer exclusive shows.

Exclusive might convert better if you have some unique angle for your site but retention will be better with 500 dvd rips compared to 20 "reality videos"

My point is at that BangBros had (let's say) $50,000 to spend on content. They could have licensed 500 (or 5000) DVDs for that price however they started a reality show. With some of the proceeds they shot more series so now they have a LOT of exclusive content and a market position.

While YOU... you got the 500 DVDs. Well, anyone with some money to spend can buy the said 500 DVDs and 500 more and ADD them to their site.

Oops, here goes Sosa's site. Maybe you won't go away but you'll linger with a few jerk-offs who sign up and then cancel when they see you got the same DVDs as everyone else. Tough luck, heh?

Exclusive content is great for a programs that provides hosted galleries and has many webmasters promoting their sites. So let's call it exclusive promo content. There is also value in filler content so the members can't go through the site while doing a trial. Then there is quality licensed sets. For what it's worth, we have a few sites and update them daily with good stuff we provide to other sites too. Our retention is very high, about six months, and many members over two years and running.

we have many clients who order "exclusive" content that seems to be beneficial to adding to their tours to get members, including tees with domain names for promotions. In addition, they purchase "non-exclusive" sets of the same models to place in the member sections. I'm lucky lucky enough to shoot the top models (Devon, Krystal Steal, Etc.) in the adult video industry for any custom shoots our customers might need, as well as the high prodution value of photo sets. Many surfers recognize these models and they contribute to site joins. It's great to have surfers joining sites, but the true value is the retention by providng members with quality content on a frequent basis. This satisfies the members, and keeps them at your site (instead of others), regardless of whether or not the content is "exclusive".
The content on my personal paysite (not a "Matrix" pay site) is the same that is released to the rest of the web. I retain my membership retention (around 6 months) by updating my site daily, messageboarding with my members, and actively participating in the site and my member's needs. The main thing they care about is the top models that I have the pleasure and honor to work with, the quality of the pics, and the frequent updates, the personal attention. Even if they can find the same content we produce somwhere else, they don't get the snuggles and personal attention that they get from me. It is not the question of whether of not the content is "exclusive", it's how it's presented. The same quality pics in the tour are the same photo sets in the member section. And most are the same top adult contract stars that are rarely found on the web.
Exclusive content is expensive to create, and it's not for everyone. But it's a great lead-in for an awsome membership section with quality "non-exclusive" content that retains members...And the highest quality content is always beneficical if you don't have the resources to create your own exclusive stuff.

It's not that they have exclusive that makes them the top sites, it's because they started years ago when a site with 100 sets was big and ploughed back the money in content for the sites. So when a visitor reaches their site he sees 5000 exclusive sets, 2000 exclusive videos. Plus a whole lot more of non-exclusive.

Size, exclusivity are only part of the picture to building a successful site, few newbies will have the money or experience to build an exclusive site these days. The key to conversions is VALUE FOR MONEY Give the surfer what he wants, not what you think you can con him into paying for.

Then look at it from our side of the fence. We shoot a half decent girl, in a half decent set and both will sell 20 times at $35 each. So find me the guy who wants to pay $700 for an exclusive Teen set and video and I will supply him. Most of the exclusive stuff is being sold at $200 to $400 for a set/video. Where's the sense in working for half price?

However most of those shooting it cheap are in Eastern Europe and I turn them down all day long, just offered a guy $50 a set, because it aint worth anymore. I wish I could find people to shoot for us who knew what the word porn meant. I can teach a chimp how to light, getting a stupid girl to look sexy is an art.

I think for new sites the key is a mix, you need at least 500 sets to start, and not content blowout crap if they could of sold at full price they would not be blowing it out for 10 cents on the dollar, and you need to be updating 5 sets a week. That's good stuff that is new and fits in a style in a niche. 500 sets will probably cost you around $15k to $20k, if you can vest in a bit of exclusvie then thats the icing on the cake.

We shoot a lot of exclusive two girl for one client, he also buys all the non-exclusive two girl we shoot and some of the girls in those sets in solo sets. Exclusive, quality and bulk, seems to work for him. He can afford to pay more than $400 a set.

We are about to launch SEMI-EXCLUSIVE CONTENT, sets that will be sold 5 times at $100 or 10 times at $50. So you can have sets that will not be in a blow out the week after you bought them without paying out a fortune.

Alot of you fuckwads in this thread have no idea. Exclusive is the way to go!!

some sets are really way to expensive, but i think there are also some good deals out there.
