yes, I have a sub-5 year old child...my female and male rottie who were both raised as a part of my pack/family several years prior to my kids arrival were/are GREAT with him...
as a side note I never allowed my puppies to "play bite" as I knew when they grew up that would
not be 'ok' to play around with...
their instincts on how to protect were/are amazing and required no shutzhund training although if you require a very high level of security it's a sound and entertaining option... I've known other Rott owners to have a great time with their dogs during this training...
PS: I've also spent quite a bit of time around German Shepards and they're also inately skilled with family and security environments...
PPS: the only Mastiff I've gotten to know pretty well was a year old puppy that was 170lbs and amazingly calm around large numbers of kids and people... He was also known to have tossed a few aggressive dogs that challenged him while protecting his owner (old blind guy)...also without any specialized training...
