Just curious because imo, telemarketers do the same thing. Why do some people make such a big deal of it.. all you have to do is set up some filters and/or click delete. Are people really this lazy? I mean delete is one click away. JMHO.

Basically spammers are abusers. When you have to tolerate 1500 spam emails each day - spammers a total pain in the ass.
Why should anyone even have to bother "set up some filters and/or click delete" because of a load of assholes who are too lazy to get a real job??

Some people do go a little psycho over spam, but on the other hand if you get 25 spams for every legitimate email (like I do) it can get pretty annoying. And unfortunately no spam filter is anywhere near perfect.

Simple example.. Tom Ridge, the "Homeland Security" person uttered words about terrorist attacks on food. What happens? We end up with hours of TV broadcast time stuck on this latest fetish as tho it just dawned on them that this was possible - along with a million other possibilities. And everytime they heard "You've got mail!" they would get an adrenaline rush. Then when spammers started filling those inboxes to the brim and people checked their mail... uh oh... no more presents. It took away the excitement for some people who have nothing better to do but sit in chat rooms and (((((((((hug)))))))))))))) their ao-buddies 22 hours a day while their kids are eating ketchup sandwiches because they won't walk away from their computer for 10 minutes.Comment

Well I got spam for these database lists extracted from whois and tried to get off. I called, emailed and complained. The result is they spoofed my address and sent out their crap.
Now I get to spend the next few days going throught all the complaints for something I had nothing to do with.
The only benefit is they put their toll free number in the message so hopefully it will cost them if enough people call.
So give them a call if you want. 1000 people calling will cost them good. 10000 might take away any profit they see. If all of us call, we probably could get the list at a discount when the company goes bust.Comment

To me, it is no different from consoles, pop-ups, audible banners, 'groups' knocking at your door (not including charities), physical mail spam, and etc.
I do not remember asking for any of the above.
Yup, it is so easy to set the rules in most if not all e-mail clients.

Note.. top the people who say they recieve 150+ spam messages a day. Change your email address? Or change your email provider. I do recieve about 4 spams a day, but 90% of the time filters pick it up. I agree with that popup, adware comment. I have noticed on some sites I promote the surfer will get stomped with 5 or 6 exit consoles. Now that some can say is unwanted.
**Also for the person who made a post about it being in their childs inbox. How old is he/she? If they are not old enuff to hear/read some porn emails... then they are simply not old enuff to be using the computer unsupervised.
