Bullshit Countries Traffic - Read It

I run multiple TGP's and did some stats on them. They mostly get their hits from trades... I have a list of countries most sponsors tell me, SUCK... Here they are:

AE,AL,AM,AZ,BG,BR,BY,CN,CR,CZ,EE,GE,HR
,HU,ID,IL,IN,Jo,JP,KG,KP,KR,KZ,LT,LV,MD
,MY,PH,PK,PL,RO,RU,SG,SI,SK,SY,TH,TJ,TK
,TM,TW,UA,UZ,YU

Some sponsors supposedly will not even take a cc from them. Others will. Of those that will, these countries make up 10% of their revenues. 10% sounds pretty good since there are a shitload more countries that are 'good' countries and most of these countries don't have people with money for computers...

So I decided to do some stats... This TGP is www.universaltgp.com and it is about 6K right now.

I added up all of the hits from each country and how much bandwidth they all consumed. In the end -

33% of the traffic was bad traffic
52% of BW was used by bad traffic

Remember only 10% of signups are from bad traffic and that is from sponsors that accept them.

I asked around. A very high portion of sales are US and CA, UK, GB, AU and FR. So it almost seems pointless to cater to these people at all...

TM3, UCJ, TTT, RB4, etc, all of these scripts should not count shitty traffic. It seems I will have to redirect it all to something... but what... Remember, no one wants it! Toolbars will give a penny for it, Dialers are the same... What can you do with such shitty traffic?

There is no one solution for everything.

Get yourself a GEO-IP database and use .htaccess to redirect by country.

Send Chinese surfers to Jade Bucks

Japanese & Korean surfers to DTI Cash

and until you can tailor the others send them all to Sex Money or International bucks or something...

Actually the 6K tgp was used because the other tgp's all have log files that are into the gigabytes, so it was just easier to use it. But thanks for your concern.

What you said in this post is pretty obvious but pretty dumb at the same time .

NOBODY will stop that traffic comming to their tgps because their tgp won't grow with trades .

Like if there was no free porn out there we would get a lot more signup but nobody will ever stop it ...

You'll find it hard to rid yourself of this traffic. If you divert it away then you risk killing off your trades, since part of the traffic they send won't be counted - AND often langs like zh will click more than average. Some webmasters may not be too happy about you shunting away their traffic either.

I started a thread on another BBS a while ago about an 'en only' alliance, which would only allow a select group of languages to be traded. It never really took off because it would require that support to be in the trade script.

I ended up concluding it wasn't worth it, bandwidth is cheap now and the alliance sites would be more difficult to grow with a limited set of trades and surfers who didn't click as much.

My 120k TGP costs less than $200/mo to host, including the server. I worry about other things now.

Yes because I took one of my smallest TGP's to use for the example since I don't parse the logs of the old ones; they are simply to big.

Side note, anyone know a way to get apache to stop logging hits for .jpg and .gif files? That'd make my log files a hell of a lot smaller. - And yes, the 'funny, witty' answer already did occure to me; convert them all to text.

Yeah, it is cheap. I have a TGP that costs me about $100 to host a month and it is making me about $800 a month. I have another that costs about the same and it is making a grand. I have several more that cost about $50 or less and make about $400. So yeah, I do come out with a lot more profit than I put in. My point is that these people in other countries make up only 6% to 10% of the BUYING public, so why are we giving them a free ride? They consume over 50% of the BW!

A EN only network. Sounds real nice!

You know, the nice thing about all of this is that I am using the traffic right now as fluff to grow my smaller TGP's. This means that the people who bought this shit traffic to grow their TGP's are now growing mine for me. But I'd rather convert it into better cash.

Alot of big tgps/mgps buy useless chinese traffic very cheap so you think that you are actually getting your moneys worth by buying a spot on a 600k a day tgp/mgp. Especially if its a thumb mgp/tgp.. All the chinese can see the images and waste your BW. At least with a text mgp they have to be able to read it.

Yeah I ran some traffic on a 70K tgp through a filter to basically count who is sending me shitty traffic. Some pretty big names where in there. I won't mention any of them since I don't wish to have my trades cancelled but, wow!

I do something similar with my traffic.

My 'A-list' surfers get the royal treatment in house and 'B-list' surfers get sorted and escorted out.

Just recently signed up with an INTERNATIONAL SPONSOR who seems to have a great system for having a go at the foreign traffic without compromising your marketing advantage for your primary visitors.
