We requested tha you email us [email protected] and as far as I can tell you have not done so.

We use apache web servers and in the config we block hotlinking by looking at all IMAGES and rewriting the URL of all images that don't have the SITE as a REFERER.

The rewritten destination URL goes to a 404 page. That 404 page itself [if the html is loaded and acted upon] will launch a popup; it's also a default 404 page for other sites.

If a hotlinked image hits that page, well the browser might load the html into the gif, but I don't think most will. Anyway, it either WILL or won't spawn a popup. The popup is spawned AFTER the hit goes through our traffic management system, and the customer campaign is loaded into that previously spawned popup window. That's for exit/popunder/popup traffic.

For 404 traffic, same situation minus the pop.

So, I don't think that we can look at HOTLINKED images as being the souce of your "img src" traffic.

For us to consider that 40% of the traffic we're sending to folks is coming from missing gifs is just inconceivable to us.

For all traffic, it comes through our traffic management system, which has much of it written in PHP, so we too can inspect headers there. The traffic is generally routed through the traffic management system with a 302 redirect.

Please send us your logs and your script and we'll run some tests and look at it with you.
