Make sure you have the leading ".*" after "RewriteRule" - the board messed up some formatting when I let it parse the urls....

RewriteRule .*\.(gif|jpg|jpeg|bmp)$ http://www.yourdomain.com/images/hotlink.gif [R,NC]
