why does my digicam look like shit? (pic)

It used to take some decent pictures, but for some reason they look all shitty now. Ive tried adjusting stuff on the cam but it doesn't really help.
Does it need to be cleaned or something?
Or is it just a old POS?

Its a sony mavica, i paid almost $900 for this shit some time ago.

    Just took this pic

              What setting is it on.

It looks like its set to a fast speed (ie iso 1200) and so will take pics quick but grainy.

Do you have an auto setting?

              Try different settings.

I am sure you should be getting better pics than that. Even a cheap digital will give better pics.

if you have one of the ones with a recharable batt. get a new batt. i know my buddy has a digi cam that came with a lil plate recharger batt. and when it started going bad the pics came out weird.

here is a pic of my car with the cam when it started going bad... you can see grainy looks

One thought is that you have photographed the sky, which is very bright.

As such, the camera (if its on auto) has changed to say iso 1200 or higher, so that it can take a pic of the sky. This could be why its so grainy.

You may be able to buy a filter, to shoot the sky so its not so bright.

Check your setting for the picture size, looks like you might have it set for the hi resolution but in the low file size. There should be 2 settings for t maybe 3. (ie: fine med low) set to fine.

Here you see when you shrink it down some it looks ok. Is that the raw image from the camera you uploaded? or has it been resized/ optimized?

Also when you have a backlight situation like that (sky is bright versus the darker ground right in front of you) you will usually always have exposure problems. The auto features on the camera are keying mostly off the sky in that shot judging by how clear that part of the picture is.

I turned the exposure to +.03v(whatever the hell that is) and the sharpness to 2 and it looks alot better now.

There's not really anymore settings that I can change that would affect the picture.

I'll try getting a new bat for it and see if that helps anymore.

I got it at Best Buy, they had it on sale and then on top of the sale they gave me a $25 Best Buy gift card. I don't know if you'll be able to find it for that price though, usually they go for about $200.

                                  Here's another sample.
