Since Saddam will be facing a WAR CRIMES tribunal, I doubt he will be able to use the "official acts" defense doctrine. Usually, acts commited while pursuing state policy is a good defense against tort action (but this is weakened recently, depending on where you sue, you may not be able to use this). One of the key official acts cases date back to suits against the Nixon administration regarding its Vietnam policies.

It's unfortunate, but we don't actually get to elect our President. We never have been able to, and probably never will, the last election being a perfect example. The Electoral College ultimately decides who gets to be the President and who doesn't, whether 100% vote that way or not.

Very true. I hope this will change some day. The pres should be elected on a majority vote only. If that would have been the case, Gore would have been pres. Well he invented the internet so he couldn't get two lucky brakes in a row

Kerry looks like a good one. The pres of the US is more like the pres of the world so it counts a whole lot that he be a good one.
