You shoud power cycle it every day. the RAM gets fragmented among other things. I leave mine on with a UPS attached though. Do a power cycle as needed.
Here's some of the reasons to turn it off.
1) self check at turn on
2) fresh start on RAM frag
3) fan draws dust in when you're not using it - that causes heat rise and is not good.
4) wear on motors (fan and hd)
5) Less chance of a power hit killing something
6) save energy and make Al Gore happyComment

we have 20 or so workstations, about 50% are turned off when not in use. We also have 8-10 servers(intranet & external) which are always on with ups backup. at home i tend to turn it off every second night ( depends if i leave it working)Comment

Mine are usually on 24/7. I do however like to reboot after working on projects that hog the resources... like for instance... after using media cleaner or after batch processing a shitload of images in photoshop.
