I don't get the shit on my laptop or desktop. I take it off all the time on customers machines though. Usually it is off within an hour. Do virus scans and spyware with 2 programs, more if it doesn't solve the problems.
like anything else, with time and experience you will know where to look and how to get ride of it.
be careful with some of that software that tells you it will get ride of spyware/addware, it installs its own then asks for money to get ride of it.
Two days was the longest for me as well. The shit would download almost as much as I deleted during scanning. Starting up in safe mode seemed to work the best for me, that only took about 10 min to get rid of it all.
Took a couple of days for me a year or two ago. I'm a bit more capable now and havent had too many problems. Using firefox also might have something to do with it.
Just once had the misfortune of getting something installed where popups and other nonsense started raping my computer. It would actually block installation of adaware and other killers. Took a day, but it was never totally fixed. Bought a new system, and I keep that one as a database computer offline.
Edit: It all started when I clicked on a link a gfy'er had posted on this board lol
adaware se is what i use and i run it offten cause those bastards are hiding in everything these days, i got the worst one yet off a damn wedding site, can you believe that
The first time was on my cousins pc. it took about a day and a half to get rid of everything.
Now that I know how they hook themselves into the system it takes about a half hour. Which includes running spybot, manually removing browser helpers and active x controls that installed and running system restore to put back all my home/search page links.
My personal PC's have only been infected once in the last year, so not much practice recently, lol.
