Abdel Aziz Rantissi, a hardliner who rejects all compromise with Israel, was chosen as the new Hamas leader Tuesday, following the assassination of the group's founder by Israel.

Mr. Rantissi told the Associated Press that he emerged from secret elections as the overall chief of Hamas and was chosen to head the group's political bureau, the main decisionmaking body.

the guy has already dodged assissination BEFOPRE getting this positilon.

he is very used to being a target and has been for years.

its not some newbie, this guy has been a targetb of assassination and I believe lost his wife or some kids.

To the smart people in this (and other threads) on GFY, let me make it a bit clearer for you...
Israel is not as quiet and peaceful as your hometown (at least most of you here). When YOU live in peace and quiet, people in Israel live in constant fear for the next god-forsaken soul attacker who will come with zero ideoligy and bomb their family of them.
When YOU think Israel is provoking people you consider as "spiritual" leaders, people in Israel sees that as eliminating the ""masterminds"" behind the terror.
So when some of you think that Israel is stirring up the ""peace"" and ""quiet"", you are basically demonstrating how much you are disconnected from reality (at least from the one of the middle-east).
I with we all could live in dream-land, but for some, reality knocks on their backdoor trying to creep in.

More to the point, Rantisi will be eliminated. Sooner or later.
His replacement will be eliminated. And so on.
If you think killing people kills the chance of peace, while that someone is dedicating his life for killing other, you are simply saying that killing of innocent should be taken quietly as part of the future peace, or at least part of the ""peace making"" process.
For that I say... Get real.
