I'm all new to the network game and have a nice new laptop coming by the end of the week, so I figure that it's good to get prepared with a wireless router. Are there any recommendations ?

I have a Belkin that works great for me -
I'm using Linksys 802.11G... seems some people have had bad experiences with them, but mine works great. Lovin' it.

I have a Linksys WRT54G, the wireless is shoddy. Some people say good stuff about them - but i have constant trouble with mine.
I replaced it's wireless feature with one of these

using a 54g as well must say the setup is hell but the signal and all is great forget belkin trust or whatever shitty brand they wont even get through a concrete will if its got iron in it, linksys will, same tech as cisco plus its got a great encryption dont let cheap ones fool you if you dont want the whole area to browse your HDOriginally posted by Amputate Your Head

I would recommend either a linksys, netgear or microsoft router to you. My personal favorite is the new microsoft routers, pretty sweet. I have seen very few problems out in the field with those three. Unfortunantley, I have seen numerous problems with D-Link and belkins.
Depending on the location of your router, thickness of your walls, material and where you plan on taking the laptop I would also recommend an access point.

Netgear is THE way to go. Best features, security and stability, and very very easy to set up. (except for the most advanced security features, should have been a bit easier)
But Netgear is #1

just so you know, netgear is not the best.
linksys, just gotta encrypt it. also, linksys has an addon that'll let you get up to an extra 1000 feet and can go through thickass cement walls.Comment

Go with netgear, I have had mine for along time now and no problems. The router is located in my basement in my office, and I am able to be online outside all around my yard. Its great

Well guys, there's no turning back now, I dug around and found the WRT54G's latest version with the Speed Boost and ordered it from Amazon.com for $99 since NewEgg didn't have it listed -
