When I was in college, a lot of us out-of-state students used to get stuck away from home during Thanksgiving. A friend of mine started a tradition of inviting lots of people of different ethnic backgrounds over to her house, and asking them to bring a dish that was traditional to their heritage and to tell about their own countries different ways of "Thanksgiving". I learned a lot about other cultures that way, it was a really cool way to spend a lonely holiday.
