The money is not to replace what she has lost.
We know that it will not bring him back.
I can not speak for all but as for myself the money is to help her to get past any financial troubles she may have as a result of this.
Lost work, burial expense, travel for herself or family, or anything else that she may need it for.
Since we can not be there to directly help her in a time of need we have decided to send money to help her anyway that it can.
