I grew up in a fucked up part of town and went to a school that was the last stop before prison and the first stop after prison. At that time, gangsta rap was just coming out and at the time I was able to identify with it. Poverty, violence and surviving a shitty area is not bound to skin color.
For the record, I hate rap, but I think that only racists try to bind it to skin color.
