    Afghan minister killed, violence errupts

    link

One report said Mr Sadiq died after a rocket propelled grenade hit his car. The attack followed a failed bid to kill his father, the governor of Herat.

After Mr Sadiq's death, heavy fighting broke out between troops loyal to his father and a senior local military commander Zahir Nayebzada, police said.

There are reports that up to 100 people have been killed in the clashes.
I thought the militias where disarmed.

They never disarmed anyone in Afghanistan, they just gave them government jobs.

The fighting is still going on according to Reuters.

Around 100 U.S. soldiers and State Department personnel are deployed in Herat as one of the U.S. military's Provincial Reconstruction Teams (PRT).

"They are monitoring the situation," said U.S. army spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Bryan Hilferty. "They are not intervening."

Yep but what they aren't telling you yet is that the assasination was done by Al Qaeda based militants because of the high profile name and relation of the minister. They also attempted an attack on his father who is very powerful within the country, all of this in retaliation for the attacks currently being done by Pakistan on them. They were hoping to spark factional violence and fuck up the Karzai government and it looks like it's working.
