I'm 29 and Want to Get Married and Have Kids!

Am I fucked in the head or what? I really want to settle down and start raising a family and I'm not getting any younger. Most guys my age are still "playing the field" but I don't want to do that any more.

Am I dumb or just growing up? Anyone married and have kids? Is it worth it?

Too much hassle, too many things COULD go wrong. Not worth it to me.

Say you get married, move into a nice ass house, decide to have a kid, mabye two. All of a sudden your wife wants to leave your ass. You're fucked. Shes then going to want half of your money, the house..etc. Then you have to think about what its going to put the kids through.

Yeah, its like buying a car... Lets say you buy a shiny new car and its fast and sexy, but one day BOOM, you run it into a tree. Now you have a wrecked car and insurance bills and the car won't run anymore.

I mean, why even buy a car at all?

                Its like taking a bath:

You might drown! And think what effect that would have on whoever finds your corpse... besides, you'll just get dirty again.

                    its like taking a shit:
You sit down on the toilet and it feels great and all, but what happens if the shit stinks? Somebody might smell it. And you'll have to wipe your ass and stuff.

Why even bother shitting at all?

                              Different strokes for different folks.

My parents have been married for 38 years and we've always had a very close knit family. My brothers are both married with kids and they are extremely happy with their lives. I think it runs in my family and I'm starting to get the itch.

You sound like a woman! Check your crotch for a dick and balls.

I am just busting your balls, man. To each his own.

I am a bit older than you, and me and my girl have no intentions of getting married, but we might have kids 5-10 years down the road.

On the bright side, I just put a deposit down on my first dog, and I hear they are just like kids, so there you go...

The times have changed... marriage was a good idea in the 50's.

Statistics say it's outdated and overated... at least in the US.

This link can answer all of your questions:
                                        http://www.divorcemag.com/statistics/statsUS.shtml

Combine high divorce rates for first year of marriage, with the median age at first divorce for males (Males: 30.5) .... and then look at your age... and well...

I think the older you get, the harder it is to find "the one" people become more independent and stubborn in their ways... spoiled with todays freedoms and lack of responsibilities

a lot of people want this, but I think the marriage itself is what breaks people apart.

I think the best thing to do is commit to a girl and have kids together, without officially getting married.

A lot of people live together and have kids together before getting married and everything is great. Then they decide to get married and it falls apart shortly after that.
I think theres something about the actual marriage bond that makes people feel clostrophobic and want to break away.

And definitely have two so you can split them up 50/50 when you're done.

getting married is fine....but I think it's important to spend some time (a few years at least) with the person you want to have kids with. Some people make great partners but terrible parents.

Some arn't terrible, they just have parenting views located on the conflicting end of the spectrum of yours.

Some people don't get the chance and sometimes it works out, but not as often as youd like. People getting pregnant young and married young have a harder time adjusting to not only the life change of a baby and co-habital domestics, but also struggle with the natural growth and changes that occur in a young adults life.

Becoming a foster parent for a few years with your partner/spouse can give you a chance to see how you guys adjust to the responsibilities of children. I'm not saying nor implying that this is an exact substitute for having your own children.

But it will give you a chance to test your patience, understanding, teamwork, and crisis-managment skills. You can choose to foster children between the ages of newborn up to 16. You can request all boys or all girls. The few training courses are fun and educational and many of the skills can be used later on with your own children.

You can not predict whether or not you will have a special-needs child of your own. Some people are completely blindsided by this when it happens to them and find it hard trying to cope. Many marriages end in divorce from the frustration that results in the emotional and sometimes physical inability to manage a life situation like this.

Having a foster kid with special needs ranging from born addicted to drugs/alcohol to slight learning disabilities, Slight mental retardation to insanely sexually abused, eating disorders(from being starved by the parents) to abandoment and authority issues. Dealing with these on a front-line basis in your own home can help prepare you for some of the possible variables you may (hopefully not) experience in your own family when you decide to start one.

Anyhow, this was just one suggestion to consider.
Good luck with what ever path you choose .

It's a very normal feeling more so when you tire of the single life. Don't rush your relationship if you are in one or the next relationship you have (if you are single). Let nature take it's course and if you feel she is the right one then go ahead. Marriage is what you both want to make it to be. If you want to be married and independant - that doesn't always work. You have to be able to take a little and give a little - make sure it is someone you get along with from the start. Be attentive to eachother and always try to keep that spark flicking.
