Lately my eyes have been under major strain from staring at the computer for hours... Never ever happened in the past... Does this mean i'll soon be needing glasses?

Staring at a monitor for a long time will not change the shape of your eye.
If you need glasses.... you need glasses. It has absolutely nothing to do with your monitor. Yes, you can get strain if your refresh rate is not high enough but it wont change the shape of your eye.
