    Ladies thinking of NOT entering the Miss GFY contest

    I say go for it. Enter. If you're sitting there and part of you wants to, but the other part is saying "*sighhh*... I can't compete with supermodels" etc...... forget that shit. From what I know of this contest it will be about intelligence, poise, and confidence every bit as much as physical beauty. I get the feeling that some of the "challenges" will bring forth the real beauties here, and most of the ones who have posted that they probably won't enter all have qualities that would make for a GREAT miss GFY.


    I get the feeling that physical beauty will only get you so far in this contest.


    Put aside the negativity and enter. I'm sure you will do much better than you thought possible, and it will be fun as well. I know that if I get to vote, my vote will be based on the true beauty that you exhibit throughout the process, and <i>not </i>on cosmetic perfection.

              I've read Lensman's posts, and those of Loryn and Tala...... I see it as being what they say it will be, not what anyone else sees it as.


              People need to trust that it is going to be run fairly and correctly. If Lens says that's the way it's going to be, then that's the way it's going to be as far as I'm concerned.


              Of course popularity will also play a factor. That's a given, but most of those that have posted that they probably won't enter are actually quite popular on this board as well as many other boards. That shouldn't be a reason for NOT entering.

I'm ok in the smarts dept, a fair bit lacking in the looks, and no way in hell I'm fooling myself into thinking I'm competition for any of those ladies.                               Ah, but see, Tala isn't a part of it except as an entrant. If you look like you're somewhere between me and Neriah Davis, then you have no reason to not enter. I figure that I may well be at the bottom of the barrel in the looks category, but I have a damn good chance in the smarts category.

                              Even if it is just a popularity contest, it's still something fun to do. There aren't any of us who are bashing the others. There's no reason for us to bash each other.

                              Let me ask this: In business terms, how many of you would refuse to partcipate because you feel that you're not as good (or hot, or marketable, or smart, or a thousand other excuses) as someone else? If you're determined, then you succeed. If you're not determined, then you don't succeed, simple as that.

                              Same here. If you're determined, then you're going to at least have a good time. If you're afraid or feel like you don't have a snowball's chance in hell, then you're right to not join the fun and games.

                              It's not about who's the best looking. It's about pulling yourself together as a WHOLE and enjoying yourself. Don't discount yourself because you're afraid you're not as hot as someone else. Bring it and let's have a good time.

                                  I think some of us are going to be surprised by how it all comes down in the end. I just re-read Lens's posts covering what the judging will be based on and what it might take to do well, and I must say, a few of you may be kicking yourselves for not entering after it's all over. A good-looking confident talented intelligent woman is going to win this, and for that you definitely qualify LM.

                                                                                          It sounds to me like qualities like personality, poise, wits, confidence and certain undefineable qualities are what's going to play a big part of the competition. If one of the weekly competitions involves writing skills that alone could eliminate a few of the content models. :D

                                                                                                          You're not being taken wrong at all, I'm just disargreeing with everyone that keeps saying she is the standard or the bar that others are measured by. Because believe it or not, not every guy on here thinks she is the greatest looking woman alive, we're just not vocal about it because then we're all classified as haters.

Is not Playboy the "standard" by which much of our industry is measured? You hear it all the time on the "would you hit it?" threads..... comments like "she's no playboy model but..."

                                                                                                                      Fact is, for physical beauty <i>ALONE</i> there are several entrants already who would give Neriah a serious run for the money. Were this contest based on looks alone I would understand someone who isn't a pro model not entering, but that's simply not the case here.

I imagine that there will be several categories where one girl or another will be lacking something vital, and so levels the playing field.

                                                                                                                                                              You cant blame people for assuming that it will be a beauty contest though, with all the posts about "who's the hottest?" etc.

He has said there will be "challenges", and his posts have led at least myself to believe that looks alone will not be the biggest factor.
