Calling all search engine optimisers - I was wondering whether or not it would be wise to buy a link on a homepage of a site with a PR of 8 for $249? There are about 30 links on it already and they are not related in content to each other, also the site itself is not relevant to my site - will the benefit of it being such a high PR override the relevancy factor?

PR8+ always benefits yours beside there is no more PR passing on the site.The price is a bit too high in my opinion, I'm paying less than 200$ for the PR8 sites linking to me.
Also 30 outgoing links are a lot, will you get a sidewide footer link?

I don't know what a sidewide footer link is but it is certainly a footer in that it is with a bunch of links at the bottom of the page.
I haven't found any other sites with PR this high offering to sell a link so I will take it if I know it will benefit (although probably won't even see this for six months knowing how google is these days)Comment

Ah so it's about a gambling links allowed site, that's something else because the prices go up quite high in the adult/RX/gambling regions.
You first have to get the guarantee that the site is passing on PR and isn't blocked on that, otherwise the link is useless, you can also check that by checking the linked sites.
Just check linkadage.com for high PR links, but you won't find PR8 sites linking to gambling related sites there, PR6 max. at "gambling ok" links
