No. Because it's not our country.

We should worry about our own shit first.

I heard that Kim Jong Il has started removing images of himself from public places. Sounds like he's backing off of the ?cult of personality? aspect of his regime. I wonder if Trey Parker and Matt Stone have anything to so with it because it's common knowledge that Kim enjoys American cinema.

Obviously not, America has no business trying to control other nations. Especially when they can't even hold elections that would pass international standards themselves.

Plus it's unlikely they'll go that route, historically the US only launches coups against popular democratically elected officials to install friendly military dictators, not the other way around. El Salvador, Haiti, Venezuela, etc etc etc etc. If a country is already run by a dictator they can convince the American sheep, err, people of the need to invade. It would have been hard to sell even Americans on the fact that they needed to invade Haiti, so they just blatantly lied about what they did there and what the result was.

You guys are already gearing up for a nice Iran war, despite the UN saying Iran has no nuclear capabilities, and Britain, Germany, and France signing a deal for Iran to uphold the NPA, I've noticed the US media is already beating the drums of war for the sheep. They already have a new Ahmed Chalabi to feed them false information and take it seriously. All I could find on US TV last night was some wacko exile talking about a "secret" nuclear facility", and MSNBC and CNN talking about it like it was fact. It's amazing that they expect people to forget how they were lied into supporting the Iraq war, but I guess some do because they're using the same playbook for Iran. It's going to be hilarious to hear morons saying the same shit about Iran they were saying about Iraq two years ago. Have fun with 70 million insurgents instead of 20 million, morons.

Yes. They are dying of starvation, have a madman dictator, and have developed nukes. Plus I'm of the opinion that all the free world should work to spread democracy wherever and whenever possible. I believe people have a right to be free and dictators have no right to exist.

Populations get the government they deserve. When they're ready for change, they'll do it themselves. That's the only way it works. Otherwise you end up with an iraq-like situation. There was no better alternative for the current culture there than a strong secular leader like Saddam to keep all the different factions from tearing the country apart. Smart outsiders knew it, and most iraqis knew it. If the overwhelming majority of that population really wanted a free western-style democracy they'd have overthrown him themselves. Ditto for the north koreans. They don't have quite the same ethnic infighting but culturally they are just as alien. Do you have any idea what they think of the USA there? We're not going to improve our image through violence.

Stop dwelling on who has nukes - it's inevitable that everyone who wants them will eventually have them - and start thinking about what you're doing that supposedly makes everyone want to point them at you. Why do they believe the threat of the USA is a reason to need them? That's our real problem; nobody trusts us. (based on our record)

What part of my post do you care to refute?

The part about America having no business trying to control other nations?

The part about America's elections not meeting international standards?

The part about America launching military coups against democratically elected leaders in El Salvador, Haiti, and Venezuela?

Or the fact that they're starting to sell you a war with Iran?

It's easy to call me crazy because I don't parrot what one side says on CNN, but this is reality son. Go back to posting your lame idiot picture and keep thinking it makes you look smart. It's certainly a lot easier than actually trying to find out if something I said was inaccurate. Just assume I made up everything I said, post your childish, unfunny picture for the 100th time, and go back to watching TV.

Democracy used to be an alien concept to the entire world not that long ago historically. If imperial Japan could achieve democracy any country can.

Are you suggesting we nuke people into democracy?

Human social evolution does lead in "our" direction. Cuture changes gradually as older generations die and younger generations embrace new information. You can't speed that up with soldiers; infact, any such attempt usually slows the process. Look at how our warring in the middle east has set back Irans social revolution; now that we are threatening their sovereignty, they are seeking security in religion and nationalism - when previously they were embracing a movement against that unpopular regime. The war in Iraq is the best thing that ever happened for the Iranian theocracy.

Trying to force our version of "liberty" on a culture that genuinely prefers theocracy is like trying to get evangelicals to support gay marriage. You have to influence the culture to change first. Right now it seems gay-rights have lost the battle in the USA, but in 40 years all the old men will be dead and the greater majority of the 'Will & Grace' generation will be more tolerant. To win the world, we just need to keep exporting our movies and music. Anyone with an internet connection can now see so many more options. They'll move in our direction, but can we be patient enough to wait out the older generations?
