In all these Zombie movies, the plucky band of survivors is walking around with only pistols, rifles and shotguns, and maybe some dynamite and Molotov cocktails. Is there a way to get hold of APC's, tanks, grenade launchers, and other cool military shit? I think if you had an M1A1 tank you could drive around and the zombies couldn't do shit. I remember when that M60 tank got loose in San Diego and nothing could stop it until it ran aground on a freeway median. Do most cities have a military arsenal or something that you could plunder or is it all sealed off behind armored bank vault doors and shit?

Every city has a National Guard armoury.....and in the rather unlikely event that there was a severe zombie problem, you could always head towards that with some hacksaws, wire cutters and a cutting torch and get in there, without too much problem.

Does National Guard have the good shit though? I thought only regular Army has all the cool stuff like body armor and Bradley Fighting vehicles. I don't think it would be worth it if the only thing in the National Guard armory was M-16s and stuff.Comment

They have Abrams tanks if it's an Armor unit...same with the Reserve centers...you just gotta find one that is in the branch you want.
Want helicopters, air national guard or air cav.

Uh, yeah.
An APC would do pretty well against zombies. Unless they're the kind that can use weapons.
Especially if you add spiky grille gards and such.
Armored Cars would work, too, with convenient gun ports.Comment

The National guard has pretty much everything that the regular army has, only a little older. Each armoury will have different things however. Some will house a transporation battalion and only have trucks, for example. Some may be armoured, some artillary, etc..... i would stockpile every possible thing from local pawn shops and armories, organize everyone close to me to gather everything they could as well (food, ammo, blankets, warm clothing etc), set up camp in the woods and heavily secure the perimeter.
gather as much high quality reloadable ammo as possible, as resources would be limited. hell, a potato cannon would work loaded with the right mortars.
boobytraps every few feet outside the perim, solar powered motion detection lights, packs of guard dogs, and human guard watches in 4 hour cycles.
oh man......i can't wait to go to the movies tonight, hahahahha.

If zombies did attack, here in the UK - the nation would be dead in no time , all military bases are sealed off with huge fences and gates, and all type of guns are practically banned. So you would have no protection driving the half hour to the nearest military base and even then have to run in.
Not really a problem for me though, I live 5 minutes away from an Police Armed Response Training Complex, all the weapons you could need in there

typically zombies are slow and dimwitted, it would be easy to sneak onto a base - grab what you need - and sneak back out without being seen by them. snag something too big to sneak out with? mow 'em over with it and don't let the door hit you in the ass.
