I dont understand how to get traffic in non-adult and who to send it to once I have it.
there are no tgps, avs, freesites to get traffic from.
Is it all buying from search engine placements or something?

From what I have seen the "buying blind traffic", etc is pretty unique to adult

Pretty much, and only makes sense if you are selling some type of product...or can show affiliate links - but would not pay anywhere near adult $$$

If you site is informational you could see traffic from the Search Engines for free... but sometimes it takes up to 6 months to be spidered...

        Good luck with your site

A useful way to make some money out of non adult would be google adsense and affiliate links to books/cds/whatever is related to the subject on the site

This info. is on target. I work at a mainstream web development company and the work & its goals are totally different. Design is design as a whole, but from a business perspective Adult is its own beast.

In the past I've tried google, sex.com and overture, and never made money. I only broke even.

I dont really know how to get the most out of search engines, I never understood how to make money off of them.

                  Clickhappy,

It is possible to make a living from AdSense and also affiliate programs.

I am new to the adult entertainment industry but have very successful general shopping and adult product sites. Revenue is derived from paid advertising, pay per sale programs and Google Adsense.

A great deal of expertise in search engines, optimisation and search engine marketing will provide you with the power to dominate your market.

Targeted traffic is the key to making a profit.

                  Good Luck

What type of "non-adult" sites are you interested in checking out?

I have run some sites, with mixed results. I run a joke site at http://www.Joke-Pages.com which does pretty well - requiring very little hands-on time, and I have also done some affiliate sites like Video Professor and what not.

The next area I want to focus in is online real estate / mortgages because of personal preference, but I also think that there is some room in healthcare and diet sites (if done right - obviously just trying to sell pills won't work).

There are a lot of ways to get traffic in non-porn ... target your audience and find message boards, I wrote a non-porn online game and that's where I did the initial promotion.

There are thousands of free classified ad sites all over the net - I've seen programs that submit to them, but never tried them.

Look harder for non-porn topsites, they are out there.

Don't overlook traffic schemes either - like FFA links pages, sloppy cgi generated pages of stupid links nobody ever sees - you may not get traffic from them directly, but most of them pages get picked up by the search engines and can boost your PR/LinkPopularity.

So basically, when it comes to traffic ... realize there are a lot of new doors open that don't accept adult sites - porn and non-porn do not trade trraffic the same way, but they both trade traffic.

As for revenue ... good luck with that one, that's the missing ingrediant that I've never been able to capture in the non-porn world.
