I don't see how Kerry can win this election. He aligned himself with a democrat his own party didn't like because he was too outspoken. Now not only does he have to twist his own words to explain away his own outlandish comments he has to explain away Dean's too? The only way I see Kerry winning is if the American people refuse to look at the facts of the campaigns and vote on whims like the Spainards.

To say that if the USA had not occupied Iraq (assisted by Spain) that the Madrid bombing would not have happened, is accurate.

Contrary to FOX News reports, theses terrorist organizations are not some mad supervillans from a bad action movie. Evil as their methods are, they feel they are fighting for a good cause. They want the sovereignty of their countrys respected. They want foreign troops out of their lands. If these countrys had a military that could stand up to us, then we would be engaged in a different kind of conflict.

It is also accurate to say that if the USA had not been interferring with the middle east for the past several decades then these terrorist organizations wouldn't even exist in the first place. Sept 11th didn't happen because Osama hates McDonalds and Starbucks and Walmart and MTV and Sex And The City. He probably does, but that's not the reason he went to war.

Now maybe keeping the middle east in chaos, preventing it from becoming a united Islamic power, was (for us) the lesser of two evils; the lesser of two wars. It's impossible to predict what the world would be like in a parallel universe where we had just stayed out of it. However I suspect our leaders were not thinking that far ahead. We were too busy worrying about Commies (and oil) to care about Islam.

But lets not cloud the motivations when Osama & Co. are clear. They do not attack us because they "hate freedom" and "hate who we are" (tho that does provide a solid foundation); they attack us because of what we do in their backyards. Those are his words. If we weren't already there we never would have been a target.

I'm not saying we shouldn't go clean up (the terrorists); just accept we helped make the mess (their motivations). Acting like these groups just appeared out of nothing and would be bombing this and that in places all over the world regardless of anything is retarded. Yet that's the impression given by too many TV pundits and then repeated by the population.

Very well thought out statement. America's actions for the last few decades were the real causes behind recent events. The wheels were set in motion along time ago and now its impossible to go back and change course, so terrorism wont be vanquished any time soon.

Terrorism is an act of despression of a people that have been repressed and deprived of most of their liberties. Their governments overthrown and nothing better stands in their place.
