Most I ever paid was $150 in my senior year in high school to see REM for the first time at Maddison Square Garden. The drummer's head just blew up, they were my fave band and I wanted to make sure I saw them before they broke up.

I paid about $100 (Canadian) too see Metallica in less than a week. As for it being worth it? I think it all depends. I like Metallica alot, they're a band I've always been into, and feel it's worthwhile to pay that much to see them live. Others might not, and that's cool too.
As for their playing, well. I think they can still play just as good. These are songs that they've been playing for ages, and they've really only improved their skills. It's their writing that's gone to absolute shit. St. Anger was crap, but I don't doubt their ability to play any of the older stuff.
