I am sure it wasn't a joke, I used to live in a place that was called The Jungle, and it included a room that matches that description.
She also had on room that was merely a wide walkway between 2 bungalows.
I would be inclined to think it was the same person, except she would only allow males to live there, and drug use was preferred.
