Agreed. Once I went to some shows and actually got to sit down with people and talk to them, things started looking much better.

If you are a program, processor or other service-provider, going to shows is definately a good idea in my view.
A lot of people wil give you more credibility if you show up in person or spend cash on a party or booth.
Others can become friends, or will be more willing to try-out your program/service after partying with you or speaking to you face-to-face.
If, on the other hand, you are an affiliate or don't rely on others for your business to prosper, I wouldn't say shows are required. They are a blast however, so if you are making enough cash why not have some fun ???
If you have to ask then you probably have no clue how to make them worthwhile.
Working in an online biz I think networking offline becomes even more important though. If for no other reason than you can see who is full of shit and who is not. Of course there are much better reasons to go.
