When to buy a computer today and the salesmen said I need to buy a special $50 powerbar that supports 1.5Ghz and up CPUs. Because these cpu's use power differently and it you dont have one your computer might die. is this really nessasary. i got a 1.5ghz running on a 10 year old power bar and I never get any problems.

nah you dont need it, it's a good idea to get a ups though to save your pc from a rare power spike.Comment

If you didnt have one I would get one, my house got hit by lightning last year and I lost a bunch of stuff. The computer was saved by a ups with surge suppression.Insert Sig HereComment

Your machine will still run w/out it. It's not recommended though. You should definitely get a surge protector. If you do buy one, make sure it's UL/CSA Approved.Winning isn’t everything, but wanting to win is. –Vince LombardiComment
