    Simple solution

    1) Build concrete wall on red line
    2) Round up every gangbanger and convict you can. Arm them. Parachute inside new wall.
    3) Wait a few years and harvest the oil.
    4) Tell France to fuck off, no oil for them.

I, for one, don't want to see Europe as a super power. One super power is already more than enough. At least with one superpower you can be sure that you'll have some decent leaders now and then. With two superpowers, the chances of that happening is a whole lot less.

You mean invasion. It's not a war.

The US is already losing favor.
Not long before the United Nations kicks them the fuck out for being asshole cowboys. They don't listen to the rest of the world.

Remember how 90% of the UN voted AGAINST going into Iraq? Well fuck that Bush said we're doing it anyways.

The Euro Union will take over, and I for one am glad. Europeans have been through thousands of years of war and know how to run things. The states just knows how to kill civillians.

I think we should NOT be helping or butting in with other countries........

If they are starving - let them.
They need money - fuck em.
Most of thier population dying from disease - oh well.
They get taken over by terrorists - too bad.

I think, and always have, that we should worry more about ourselves then what everyone else is doing or thinking!

We have enough rpoblems right here to worry about anybody else.

I'd say it's more of a harbinger. Most Europeans - having a real historical basis for understanding what war on their soil means - never supported the Iraq war. Those leaders that chose to follow the US lead did so against heavy popular opposition, and the war isn't going according to plan. Not to mention the gravy is all going to no-bid contracts for US companies.

The long-term outcome of this could be to solidify and re-invigorate the European Union in ways never before possible. As elections come and go, the parties that supported the war - and are pro-US - will find themselves running out of friends. Perhaps even the hard-liners who envision the EU as a counterbalance to the US on the world stage get real power.

On this track, popular opinion in the EU can be tilted. From the Europeans I've known - and there are many - I don't think the natural reaction is a knee-jerk "let's kick their ass" response you'd see here in the States (reference quotes above). Given the popular lack of support over many of the US-led initiatives Europe has been involved in, I'd say it pushes things more into a US-EU competition.

That, with the economic indicators, weakness of the dollar, tends to me that W's legacy may be the weakening of the US as a true world power...sure we have a big army that can blow people up, but any essence of diplomacy or statesmanship that previous admins have had is long gone here, and in civilized circles, that's what counts. Let's hope he doesn't invade Spain next.

Europe and Canada going so far to the left scares me. The vision they have just isnt realistic. Theres too much evil in the world that laugh at such Hollywood westernized values.

This is just one example in that Europe and other modern socialistic societies, just don't have the stomache for bloodshed.

If you guys want to be a world power, then you need to flex world power muscle. Until your willing to do that, stfu and get out of the USA's way.

It was a right winger like you who suggested that a politician might have had a hand in a massive terrorist attack on his own country for political gain.
I didn't suggest anything. Other then the obvious someone used this attack for political gain. You can't say the same about 911, 911 was done for spite. Not to affect elections.

To my knowledge ETA usually target politicians and usually give out warnings before they blow their bombs. This may change now...

Soul_Rebel, it might be better for a country to give after to terrorists demands sometimes, but what signal does it send to the rest of the world?

Umm well .. Didn't a little European country named Germany get a little out of hand .. Requiring American intervention?

Oh and then when they did it again, they took over all of Europe except Britain ... Requiring, once again, some good old US help.

At least with one superpower you can be sure that you'll have some decent leaders now and then. With two superpowers, the chances of that happening is a whole lot less.
I don't phrase this as "superpower" in the Cold-War-era sense (which lots of DoD people seem stuck in). More like a bloc - which the EU is - of diverse nations, soon to be much more diverse in May. The EU is tackling as a body issues more complex by far than was tackled with the thirteen colonies, and I would say from visiting and news, having some successes in the context of very heated debate.

The EU argues about common defense forces - which most seem against as far as I know - and other issues. Economic issues, and immigration issues, seem to be at the forefront. It's not a unified voice as much as a counterbalance, even at this early stage, a powerful one.

470 million people in the current EU, I think. While the EU is drafting a constitution, there's a big emphasis on national autonomy. It's unlikely there will be a United States-style "superpower" in place, but very likely - and already signs are showing - that together a lot of nations can pool their influences and resources and have a big impact in international politics. The African States (can't recall the name) are in the extreme early stages of this as well.

In the end, I don't see this as a bad thing. Much like small businesses can pool their resources to get a better deal, this way countries with common interests can play a more representative role on the world stage. If these other unions mature effectively, then, ironically enough, you might see an "Old Europe" argument played successfully against the US, since the concept of the EU is a much more flexible, intelligent, fluid, and non-aggressive model of representation than brute force and intimidation.

If foreign policy were in the end decided on intelligence, negotiation, and cooperation, and less on religious divides, military might, and nuclear explosives, I think the world would be a much happier place. Living in fear just sucks.

But, sometimes blood needs to be shed in order stand up for whats right.. and put down whats wrong which I think is what you really think right?

As a Canadian, I find it embarassing out goverment doesn't stand united with the USA. We're allowed to get along with very little useful millitary, and not need to worry because of our southern neighbors. If we had Iran to the south of us, we'd sure as shit not have free healthcare and a monster millitary too.

If they want our feable help in their millitary actions sometimes, we should be right there supporting it. I swear it's the french influence, and it's spreading.

going so far to the left?

how about not sticking our noses into other people's business? Ever heard of that?

Evil in the world? How much evil is there in the US? They just invaded some other country!

                                                    Evil is as evil does.

It's not your place to punish or judge, nor is it mine.

Did Saddam deserve to be taken out of power, sure. Did the entire nation deserve to be bombed from the sky and completely taken over? Probably not.

Did the world deserve to be completely lied to about weapons and papers and intentions? No.

Am I going so far to the left? no, I'm using common sense.

The intentions were bogus. The decision was bogus. The belief that Bush can do no wrong is bogus. The war mongering is bogus and the tampering in other people's affairs is bogus.

Don't lump everyone into a wing group because we happen to think that maybe thousands of people didn't really need to die for some hidden agenda that one guy has.

Remember how 90% of the UN voted AGAINST going into Iraq? Well fuck that Bush said we're doing it anyways.

The Euro Union will take over, and I for one am glad. Europeans have been through thousands of years of war and know how to run things. The states just knows how to kill civillians.
We're Canadians and have a lot more in common with the US than with Europe. Power corrupts and for sure the US is gonna get very bad and power-hungry leaders now and then but it's a young superpower and the people are learning from there mistakes. I trust that the US will mature well and quickly. Half the population is already questioning Bush's policies and compared to other countries I've seen fall victim to terrorism, that's pretty darn good.

Don't forget that Italy is ruled by a rutheless quasi-dictator who controls the media.

I remember how Bush said he didn't care what the members of the UN think even before going to the UN with his plan to invade Iraq. It's pathetic, but he ain't gonna be president forever. The guy is an idiot who lead an easy life without taking the time to understand the values of his country and what they stand for.

Iraq, Iran, North Korea. I do not personally know that Saddam had ties with Bin Laden but he was a evil dicator that murdered 100,000's of his own people over the years. He was a human rights violator to the extreme. I do not like war but I am glad he is gone. Now this new Spanish President is going to show that they are going to bury their heads in the sand and bow down to the terrorists. That is a signal that can start a string of violence over there that will not cease.

Now we're gonna be needing a bigger military though. Eventually all western countries are gonna have little choice left but to unite against muslim countries. Al-Qaeda will make sure of that, and yes people outside the US will fall into the same trap. Terrorists are quite predictable.

Every country has their own basic priorities. Spain sent troops, because the picture they had back then was more benefits for them than potential losses. They aren't more humanitarian than italians, germans, french and so on. Picture now changes, so does their tactic.

Now we're gonna be needing a bigger military though. Eventually all western countries are gonna have little choice left but to unite against muslim countries. Al-Qaeda will make sure of that, and yes people outside the US will fall into the same trap. Terrorists are quite predictable.

I agree with you that it is going to be a larger conflict soon. I do not think Canada is a bunch of pussies, neither do any Americans. Canada is their own country and we support their beliefs and policies. I feel a sad tragic day is brewing on the horizon. WWIII is in its beginning stages.

It will definitely send a warped message to the world if a country allows its foreign policy to be shaped solely by terrorist acts. If this happens, expect more terrorist actions.

Every country has their own basic priorities. Spain sent troops, because the picture they had back then was more benefits for them than potential losses. They aren't more humanitarian than italians, germans, french and so on. Picture now changes, so does their tactic.

Giving in to terrorists might be good short-term. But for the long-run it is not. By winning a victory in spain, maybe they go after the Athens olympics next time? Or the Euro 2004?

I agree with you that it is going to be a larger conflict soon. I do not think Canada is a bunch of pussies, neither do any Americans. Canada is their own country and we support their beliefs and policies. I feel a sad tragic day is brewing on the horizon. WWIII is in its beginning stages.

Can't they at least try something new to fight terrorism? They all get blinded by hate and revenge and go at it. More nationalism, more religion, etc. It's a loose-loose situation for everyone except for those in power and the religious extremists.

They dealt him his first real defeat during WWII on Russian soil and then started kicking his ass back to Germany. When America saw that Russia was taking over all of Europe it had to act, hence the whole East/West Germany thing, and all of the European commie satellite nations that were setup after WWII.

In any case, certainly America is getting a bit of its just deserts here. We intervened our noses into others business, and even before that, we were only interested in financial gain. Well, when our financial gains were threatened we used military force, things got really out of hand in those nations and now you got widespread terrorism.

Think back in history, this is the first time that terrrorism is so wide spread, so blatant and being used so often. This is certainly the beginning and it requires some sort of drastic political change or rethinking, certainly war didnt provide the solution.
