I think it is because they feel inferior in the real world and the only place they can slag people off is on GFY. In a lot of cases their wealth is simply due to an early start in this industry that once had few competitors and not because of any greats talents or innovations.

Most of the people that "claim" elite status and that "claim" to have money think they are cool because, they were major geeks growing up..and are major geeks now.
They were picked on.. they hung out with the smokers ..drinkers..whatever the click may be...and they made some money and now they think that others respect them for their money... Having no clue, that they are still pathetic losers not accepted in social settings
