Shit happens? I guess when the planes hit the WTC... well, innocent people died - shit happens. I guess when we bombed Hiroshima... well, a few innocent people got in the way. Oh well, shit happens. I guess when we enforced sanctions that have resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent Iraqi children... well, they were in the way. Shit happens.
I'm not saying some sort of military action isn't necessary at times (including now). I'm not saying we can ever guarantee innocent blood won't be spilled. But to say "Shit happens!" is just inhuman. I can't believe somebody could be that nonchalant about the deaths of children. I sure as hell hope Bush doesn't have that attitude. "The terrorists have kids standing in front of them? Go ahead and drop that bomb. Shit happens." Unfortunately, I think the bomb would get dropped and the White House PR machine would clean up the mess.
You're right... Afghani children have died since Sept. 11. Maybe instead of saying "Shit happens", we should show a little compassion for the people we call "consequences".
