Sure thing god chose to save you but allowed thousands of other innocents to die around the world the same day? Get real and accept the fact you were lucky. If god exists he/she/it doesn'e micromanage individual lives.Originally posted by TekayRoyal

it's funny to see the same people on here talking about how they believe in god, and see 'em on other threads bashing gays. not surprising really, cuz the bible says being gay is wrong.

God is just the name we give to that which is unexplainable. Even the bible says you cannot know God. And we can really never even hope to understand God. But we try by adding 'human features' so we can understand and visualize and believe.
Do I believe? Yes, because there is so much we don't know or understand and there is little denying the 'power of faith'. IMHO
And by saying 'there is no God' or even 'there is a God', implies that you know everything. And trust me, we don't know anything. We don't even know what 'time' is.
This thread should really be asking, do you believe in the God religions have created and endorsed? "God" can be so many different things.

I believe? "There was only one Christian and he died on the cross" (Nietzsche).
There may well be something out there beyond our understanding, but nothing in current religious doctrine explains how it should be possible for the world to be in such a huge mess (er, no Revelations quotes, please, trumpets hurt my ears).
I think you believe in yourself, question yourself, treat others with respect when deserved, and do what you think is good in the world. You have to be responsible for your actions and your choices, after all you made them and no amount of beads can change that.
I don't see religion - as it was originally conceived - to play a real role in this world any longer. It's been adopted by extremist revisionists by and large, for their own agendas, and instead of being about love, forgiveness, and good, it's become about violence and hatred. Maybe that was always the case, who knows.
I won't hedge my bets on if there is or isn't someone up there. But I will hedge my bets that if there is, they'll see that I've been a good person, treated others well, been generous when I can be, and always made my own way.
I do accept that there's a very real possibility that when you die, you die, that's it. So I tend to say experiences are of utmost importance. You may only get one chance around, and within parameters of being good, you should take every experience you can. Carpe diem.
In the end, what matters is several things. Have you stood on your own as much as possible? Have you taken life's opportunities, and dealt with hardship because of it? Have you treated people as well as you could, and done as much as you could to help those less fortunate? And have you been your own person, to the last gasp?
To paraphrase: "Struggle gives life meaning. If you give up, then they've beaten you, and you wind up in the street with your hand out."

Seriously... the Bible is a book. It could have been written as a code of ethics to scare people to do good. People are terrified of going to hell. People tend to be afraid of things they can't understand.. Good & Evil really makes the world go around. Joy wouldn't feel so good without pain.
So that's my personal beliefe. Right or wrong, it's really a 50/50 chance.
Hypothetically, if it were proved that there wasn't a God people woudln't believe that either.Comment
