    ARS Selling Webmaster Emails?

    Yeah, here goes today's drama. I like ARS, have used them for years but this smells really bad. A little bird told me that this morning emails started appearing at an email addy used only to sign up with ARS' stuff.

    Here are but a few examples:

    From: "Support shantung"
    Reply-To: "Support shantung"
    To: [email protected]
    Subject: ::::::::!!!!!! sh0cking vide0s !!!!!!:::::::: bragg
    Date: Wed, 11 Feb 2004 06:45:43 -0500

    From: "Eternal_dragon"
    Date: Thu, 11 Mar 2004 20:28:49 -0200
    To: [email protected]
    Subject: gayer r-a-p-e. p-o-r-n! ID#:minimizingmeanwhile stager


    So tell me ARS...did you sell us all out to make another quick buck?

          adrev@ is an email used exclusively for ARS the same as is done for all sponsors. Helps to know who the fuckers are.

              you know what, it doesnt prove anything, theres ways to create email lists with domains and words. before I ever got my email into any form I was already getting spam from one guy (Walt Addams Inc)...

              I dont say they didnt sell it, I'm just saying its possible you got bulk mailed.

                              I got an email like this today too the addy I use with ARS.

                              Kinda looks the same but the email it was sent too is not ARS specific; only a few sponsors have it though.

                                                      ARS no longer have any email address of mine, but a lot of other sponsors have been hitting me with crap/selling my email it seems. I had one account several months.. no spam at all until i joined up with a few sponsors.

                                                                                  Yeah, I know how harvesting works. I also know about cleaning lists which these guys seem to miss on a regular basis.

                                                                                  Maybe it was a test mailing to see if the list was worth anything

                                                                                      The only emails we send out are for webmaster opt in newsletters.

                                                                                      You should find where the email came from, report the spam, find the affiliate and affiliate company that the links in the email go to and take it from there.

                                                                                                          We don't sell mailing lists for webmasters. What is the point of that? Why would we dilute our own webmaster base with competitive programs / opportunities. Worse yet, why would we sell it to someone who is going to mail you porn offerings? As some of you have suggested this was our response, I'm sure if you took just a few minutes to logically think about it, it would NOT be in our best interest.

                                                                                                              No, it doesn't make sense Marc, but neither does it make sense that spam is arriving at an email address that's no public and that was ONLY ever used to join your webmaster program. I mean really, does "adrev" sound like a common address that people would blindly send spam to? Fire anyone lately?

I get a shitload of spam daily too, to all sorts of addresses but this is one address that has never been published anywhere or used for any purpose other than to sign up for one sponsor account.
