local paper all black because of Bertuzzi punch

Doesn't this seem a bit much to you? I mean, yes, it was kinda harsh what happened, but it's not like Bertuzzi pulled a gun and shot the guy in cold blood.. ya know?

Anyway, here's the cover of the local paper... it's an entertainment/sports paper.. usually full of pictures and colour.

Isn't this just a tad morbid?

I'm going to have to agree. If he took off his one of his skates and tried to stab the guy with it, I'd understand all the shit about it right now, but all he wanted was to pay the guy back, not fracture the guys neck.

Bertuzzi seems like a good guy, but I have a sneaky suspicion he's gonna be in some more anger counceling soon.

If you see this in a stand, this is definitly eye catching

That's true... but man, I have enough to be depressed about with what's in my pants.

I don't need the media trying to depress an entire city because of a hockey game.

                  That's just friggin depressing.

In my books, that hit wasn't as bad as the Sutter cross-check to the face which got 4 games, but they didn't know Kariya would be out for the season. Or the Domi elbow on Niedermayer, that was just plain headhunting. Or the Hatcher hit on Smith in the Edmonton-Dallas series in the playoffs, got one game I think. Hatcher after the game said something like, "When did it become illegal to hit someone in the face?" Or the McSorley hit on Brashear, maybe he was aiming for the shoulder, but for god's sake don't use your damn stick. Geeze, I can think of a lot more, too.

In fact, I think there's a cheap shot a week that's about the same as Bert. Problem is, Bert broke the guy's neck. The media is just going off, but it wasn't like he had an intent to injure, he was just trying to goad him into fighting.

That being said, he knows he's a big guy, and there's no way he should be pulling that shit. I can't see him not being suspended for the playoffs unfortunately.

I know Bertuzzi wasn't TRYING to break the guy's neck, but he was definitely trying to hurt him. True, Moore gave Vancouver's captain a cheap shot last time they met, and I fully understand Bertuzzi's frustration and drive for wanting to get Moore back for it (as what usually happens when you go after a teammate with a cheap shot, you can damn well expect to be a marked man the next time the two teams meet).

But let's seriously look at the situation. He came up from behind, punched the back side of Moore's head, fairly hard, jumped on top of him, and purposely slammed Moore's face straight into the ice, then proceeded to beat the snot out of him, mind you while he was already down, and unconscious, even after the team started piling on top of the both of them.

He has probably ruined Moore's NHL career for life, and let's not forget that Moore is only 25 years old, and in his rookie year too.

Bertuzzi deserves a very long suspension without pay, a few fines, and a night in jail.

All the friggin reason to get rid of the instigator rule. That should have been dealt with the game it happenned or even the 5-5 game in Colorado, but a point was on the line. Thing was, the hit on Naslund was clean (just a shoulder to the head, like Stevens on Lindros or Kariya), just like waaay too late. Nothing really THAT dirty about it, it's not like he speared him behind the net or broke his leg with a slash.

Yeah, I'm not sure about the purposely slamming his face into the ice part. But in any case, a broken neck is a broken neck.

Yup. Hopefully, Moore will be able to come back. It's really unfortunate to see someone to get hurt, but it's part of the game. Normally, even through all the cheap shots, no one really gets hurt this bad. Brashear nailed Ray in the face four times in the Philly-Ottawa game while Ray was screening in front of the net. I'm surprised Ray wasn't out cold actually. Even all the stick work in the playoffs only gets a game or two. He'll probably get a year suspension like McSorley just for the extent of the injury.

There's no doubt in my mind that he intended to sucker punch, maybe even knock the guy out.

But it's also pretty clear that he had no intention of falling on the guy, much less breaking his neck. It's impossible to know how someone is going to fall after a punch like that.... there's no way that Beruzzi could have been thinking "hey, if I punch him now, he'll fall flat on his face and be seriously hurt"

Sure he needs to be responsible because it was after all, his fault.

But still, a mistake is a mistake.

1st off isn't an unwritten rule in hockey not to punch with he golves on becasue of the lead?...so he was out of line in that regards and don't dude got a broken neck..mistakes do happen and someone must pay and made to be an example and he happen to get both titles
